I Miss the Old Blockfolio, So I Built My Own Blockfolio Alternative
I loved the old Blockfolio app.
At the time, it was arguably the best app to track your crypto, period. It was simple, fast, and efficient. Most importantly, it focused on one thing only: helping you track your portfolio.
If you’re looking for a Blockfolio alternative to track your crypto portfolio, this is exactly why I built Folioly.
Back then, you opened your phone, added your coins, and checked your holdings. That was it. No wallet connections. No permissions. No clutter.
However, everything changed when FTX bought it and completely messed it up, along with much of the crypto industry. Until that moment, Blockfolio really was the gold standard. And honestly, I miss it.
Watch: Why I Built a Blockfolio Alternative
Why the Old Blockfolio Was So Good
In those days, tracking crypto felt normal and effortless.
I remember waking up in the middle of the night just to check my portfolio. At one point, my girlfriend even thought I was cheating on her. In reality, I was simply checking my crypto.
That’s how clean and frictionless the experience was. Because of that, it became part of daily life for many crypto users, myself included.
Why I Built a Blockfolio Alternative
Because I missed that experience, I decided to build my own crypto portfolio tracker.
That’s how Folioly.app was created.
The idea was simple. I wanted to recreate the feeling of the old Blockfolio, while borrowing some UI inspiration from Exodus. That said, it’s important to be clear about what Folioly is and what it is not.
It is not a wallet.
It is just a tracker.
And it is built with security first in mind.
There are no APIs, no permissions, and no wallet connections. Instead, it offers a clean and simple way to track your crypto.
Even better, it’s completely free.
What Folioly Does (And What It Doesn’t)
Folioly is a privacy-first crypto portfolio tracker.
When you open the app, you’ll immediately see your total crypto exposure. In addition, you’ll see your 24-hour change and your overall gain or loss.
Adding a holding is extremely simple. You click add, choose the cryptocurrency, enter the amount you hold, and optionally add your average buy price. That’s all there is to it.
As a result, there is no syncing, no connecting wallets, and no risk. Your data stays yours.
Manual Tracking, Done the Right Way
Once you add your coins, Folioly shows you your allocation percentage and a clear breakdown of your portfolio.
This is intentional.
Rather than overcomplicating things, I wanted something that feels safe, boring, and reliable. In crypto, that’s a feature, not a bug.
Portfolio Reality Check and AI Insights
There is also an optional feature called the Portfolio Reality Check.
If you choose to save your portfolio, you can unlock an AI breakdown that reviews your portfolio structure. It highlights concentration risks and offers general, high-level suggestions.
That said, there is still no wallet connection. Your funds remain completely untouched at all times.
One important detail to note is that your portfolio is saved per browser. For example, if you save it in Chrome, it will be available in Chrome. If you switch browsers, you will need to re-enter it. This is a tradeoff I’m comfortable with in order to keep privacy intact.
Why I Built Folioly in the First Place
I originally got into AI as a hobby.
Over time, I started building apps, GPTs, and learning prompt engineering. Eventually, Folioly became something I built for myself, then for clients, and later for subscribers.
In many ways, it’s a nostalgia project. At the same time, it’s a learning project. Most importantly, it’s a useful tool.
Try It and Share Your Feedback
Folioly is free.
There is no signup, no email required, and no pressure. If you like it, use it. If you don’t, tell me why.
I already have ideas for upgrades, but feedback from real users matters most. You’ll find the app linked below, and I’ve also included a QR code in the video so you can scan it directly.
